The investment implemented along the Lake Balaton waterfront in the area of Fonyód ensures access to the services of the Lake Balaton tourism centre - which services were difficult to access earlier - for nearly 500 visitors with disabilities.

The shores of Lake Balaton appear to be reviving after a recent faltering. Several developments suggest that investors are beginning to see an increasing number of opportunities in the region.

The State Motorway Management Company Ltd. launched the major works of its maintenance programme planned for this year at the end of March, over a month earlier than last year.

According to the article in The Independent (see below) having dental care in Britain is far the most expensive compared to all Europe, while the dental tourism is getting more popular, especially to Hungary, Lake Balaton. With Ryanair from London/Stansted to FlyBalaton airport takes only to hours to reach the world famous spa/health resort Hévíz, which is the real center for dental care. Even if you add all the costs for the flights, accomodation etc, you could still save lots of money having a dental care in Hévíz, Balaton. The standard of Dentistry in Hungary is extremely high with Hungarian Dentists spending at least 5 years at Dental University. Once completed they join an approved Dental practice so that a Dental Professor or lead Dentist can mentor them through 3 years of post graduate training. Only after regular assessments and examinations have been passed will the Dentist be provided with a licence to practice.

The beautiful nature of Lake Balaton attracts plenty of tourists, who are looking for an area, where they could really enjoy their hobbies in a protected environment, with fascinating nature. According to the future plans, the Lake Balaton region is focusing on developments, which are supporting the activities in the nature reserve areas. There is already an existing bicycle path around the Lake Balaton, and will be more built in the near future, like this one between Marcali and Boronka.

Four investment projects expected to start in 2008

Quinlan Private, a leading international private equity real estate group and SCD Group, its partner in the implementation of a 450 million euro investment programme at lake Balaton announced that their first joint investments would start in 2008. The joint venture, which has been registered under the name SCD Quinlan Private Balaton Development SA, acquired 100% ownership in 23 project companies, including their real estate property that withdrew from Siótour, Balatontourist and Zalatour in the meantime.

The investment programme will consist of 23 projects, including the development of hotels, harbours, villa-parks, facilities serving conference tourism and health tourism, high quality camp sites and resort parks and entertainment parks, among other things. The objective of the developments, which are significant in a Central European comparison, is to turn Lake Balaton into an attractive tourist destination providing high-quality accommodation and high-level services.

By increasing the number of guest nights and by extending the tourist season, the development programme may start a new chapter in the tourism of the region.

The third route from Balaton with Ryanair is between Düsseldorf-Weeze and the FlyBalaton airport. The new flight departing from the Weeze airport 80 kilometres to west from Düsseldorf will connect not only the western region of Germany but also the Dutch and the Belgian market with the Balaton region!

Hungary's best known football club Ferencvaros is owned from today by Kevin McCabe, as he has finally won the official tender. A new stadium is expected in 2010 and hopefully the club Ferencvaros will be competitive shortly!

It was announced yesterday, that the new Dakar Series will be held In Hungary, Lake Balaton in April 2008. This year's Dakar Rally was canceled due to terrorism threats in North Africa, the Amaury Sports Organization, which holds the annual Dakar Rally has been working on the Dakar Series for a long time. The Dakar Series at the Lake Balaton, which was originally planned to start in 2009, is going to be the biggest rally event in 2008 with all the top drivers and teams from the rally world!

Spanish developer comes to Balaton

Spanish construction company Iberalta Group plans to build 120-150 room five star hotels, golf courses and apartment houses on both coasts of Lake Balaton.

The investments will be completed by 2012 and cost over Ft 50 billion (€196 million, $266 million). Inspired by several Spanish property development companies, Iberalta Group decided on a CEE expansion in the spring. The improving infrastructure and the growing number of visitors made Balaton and its neighborhood a coveted investment target. At present Iberalta is negotiating with the municipalities of five townships: Siófok, Balatonlelle, Balatonfüred, Badacsony and Balatonalmádi. (source: Napi Gazdaság)

You can book your direct flight from Stansted to Balaton again!

The direct flight between London-Stansted and Balaton is still available during the winter time as well. Now you can book your flights to Balaton for reasonable prices with Ryanair.

From the end of October, 2007 Ryanair is launching new routes to Budapest from different cities of the UK and Ireland. Flights will be available from Liverpool, Bristol, East Midlands, Glasgow and Dublin as well. Since the new motorway has been opened from Budapest to the Lake Balaton, it is only an easy, pleasant two hours drive from the Budapest Airport to Lake Balaton. These new routes could be considered too, getting here to the Lake!

How to get to Lake Balaton? Although there is only one direct flight from the UK (London-Stansted) to Balaton at the moment, but there are several alternatives how to get there. You can fly to Lake Balaton from Glasgow, Dublin, Barcelona, Rome, Stockholm as well, easily with just one change, all settled with Ryanair! The 26th annual cross-Balaton swim will take place on Saturday, July 21 at 8am from Révfülöp to Balatonboglár. The 5.2km challenge is open to all, including professional athletes and children under 14, if accompanied by a parent.

Connected to the expansion plan of the Fly Balaton airport, DHL will launch its new depot in the logistics center of the airport within a few months. Also the Fly Balaton airport is now cooperating with several civil organizations around the lake, their aim is to share all the marketing costs of the whole Lake Balaton region, opening new and new flights from new destinations of Europe in the next years!

Before the main tourist season starts, the chances are better to spend a nice fishing day at the Lake Balaton! Now most of the sailing boats are in their mooring as well, its owners are now looking for the perch in the deep water of the Lake. As soon as it is getting warmer, the best periods for fishing are the early morning ours and the fishing at night!

Fishing tickets are available in the fisher shops all around the lake, a 10 day "shoreline" ticket for adults cost around 15 EUR.
